The biggest weather & climates feather is no heavy typhoon, also very few earthquakes. East Malaysia Humidity is lower than West malaysia. Therefore, The night there is cooler. But Both area have high summer temperature in day time

West Malaysia – Average monthly temperatures in Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and Penang

Langkawi and Penang are about 3.5 hours away by ferry, so the climate is almost similar, but Kuala Lumpur is located inland. So, Kuala lumpuer’s humidity is higher than 2 cities and you may feel hotter, comparing with 2 cities(Langkawi, Penang).
Kuala Lumpuer is capital city of Malaysia, therefore, there are many cars, buildings, It makes you feel hotter also.

East Malaysia – Kota Kinabalu

Kota Kinabalu is the Capital city of East Malaysia, This city humidity is lower than East Malaysia cites as above(Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Penang). So you feel less the hotter in the morning & night, than these cities in West Malaysia

The highest average humidity is usually 80% in South East Asia countries. Malaysia’s average humidity is about 75%.
So, in early morning, night, you would feel less feel hot.

Comparing Kota Kinabalu’s humidity with West Malaysia cities, It is lower. I stayed at both regions. Actually it is.

West Malaysian rainy & Dry seasonn

The dry season in Kuala Lumpur is seen as May-Sep, Penang close to Langkawi, and Langkawi to Dec to Apr. A chart of monthly precipitation will help you understand it. These regions’ rainy seasons would not rain long, usually finished in short time. It would not be longer 1 hour normally. Malaysia would divide a year into rainy & dry season.

From the rainfall average data, you can guess the rain season from May to Dec. The rainy season long, but the rainfall is not heavy comparing other South East Asia countries. So you do not need to feel so worry about traveling during the rainy season in Malaysia.
